Hello all!
We had our first full day in Japan! We have two nights in Tokyo and we leave Friday to head to Takasaki. After a long day (or two?) of travel, it was nice to have a place to sleep.
The sun rises here at 4:45am. We didn’t get up quite that early, but after a quick breakfast we made our way to Mt. Fuji, an active volcano a couple hours away from us. We didn’t decide until the night before to see Japan’s highest peak as visibility conditions can be volatile. Though it’s one of the country’s most iconic landmarks, the Hendersons had never been there. We (8 CBC + 5 Hendersons) used all sorts of transportation to get there and back including various trains and busses. We’ve learned a lot about how to get around. As it turns out, Pastor Kevin is an expert at driving on the left side of the road. We got to see a cool ice cave near the mountain and some of us checked out a famous pagoda view point after walking up 398 steps. We’re looking forward to getting to see more of Japan. The more we have gotten to know this beautiful country, the more we have gotten to appreciate the country and it’s people.
All the travel has meant time to talk with one another. Most of the time we had spent as a group thus far had been planning and talking logistics. But through out all the travel, it was nice spending time with each other as we get to serve with one another.
The Hendersons have been a joy to spend time with. In conversations with Josiah and Noel, we’ve gotten to hear more of their story and their heart. Their three children were radiating energy even when the rest of us were wiped. We’re looking forward to spending more time with them and the their church as the trip continues.
